North Country Hospital is a private, nonprofit acute care community hospital serving twenty-two communities in a two-county area in the rural Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Located on 30 acres in a quiet, easily accessible part of the City of Newport, NCH blends medical expertise and technology with a genuine concern for people. In addition to a population base of over 27,000 residents, the hospital provides care to the many area visitors, summer vacationers, skiers and other sportsmen.

North Country Health System is governed by a Board of Trustees, comprised of community members, who give of their time to fulfill this vital role. The system includes the hospital, outpatient services, physician practices and Derby Green, a skilled care facility. North Country Health System is a member of the American Hospital Association and the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems. It is licensed by the State of Vermont Department of Health and is certified by the Department of Health and Human Services as a provider under the Medicare program, It is also accredited by the Center for Medicare Services (CMS), which assures that the hospital meets the highest standards of medical care.

North Country Hospital and Health System provides cost effective care to all people regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, and ability to pay. The hospital has a further commitment to community partnerships and to encourage, educate, and assist members of the community in the maintenance and improvement of their own health.

Founded in 1919 by a group of area citizens, Orleans Country Memorial Hospital opened in 1924, the present North Country Hospital, opened in 1974.
