Derby Lions Join Campaign against Diabetes

Derby Lions Club President, Mike Bowen, presents a check for $500.00 to Wendy Franklin, Director of Development at North Country Hospital. This donation will benefit the hospital's diabetes education fund and will help people here in our own community.

"The timing couldn't have been better for this generous donation made to North Country Hospital by the Derby Lions Club," remarked Wendy Franklin at the Lions monthly meeting Wednesday night. An important part of North Country Hospital's mission is to actively collaborate on health initiatives, and educate the community about diabetes awareness, prevention and self-management - this is all critical to the well-being of our health.
Lions Club members shared some of their personal stories about living with diabetes or having family members affected by the disease. It seems to touch just about everyone in some way.

The Derby Lions Club currently has 21 members and they work hard to raise money through Bingo and other fundraising activities to give back to the community.

A hospital fundraising initiative that is in progress through March 15 is the Diabetes Prevention Winter Walkathon on the IROC walking track. You do not have to be a member of IROC to participate. You can sign up and get your pledge sheet at any time at the IROC front desk, and pick up a free pedometer to keep track of your miles. Any pledges collected during this month time frame will go toward the diabetes education fund at North Country Hospital. You'll accomplish a lot -you'll get your own exercise, and raise dollars to fight back against this chronic disease, which has reached epidemic proportions. Mark your calendar now for the next Diabetes outdoor walkathon - Sunday, October 5, at North Country Hospital.
