North Country Hospital’s Quit Tobacco Programs

North Country is part of the VT Quit Network, a statewide collaboration to help Vermonters quit tobacco use successfully. Services to help you become tobacco free are listed below.

Quit Time: This 8-session group course is conducted by experienced tobacco treatment specialists. It includes 12 weeks of nicotine replacement (patches, gum or lozenges). There is no charge for the nicotine replacement. It is ordered and sent directly to your home address. Course begins each January, April, June and September. For more information and to register, call North Country’s Wellness Center at 334-5566.

One-on-one Coaching and Support: Available through North Country’s Respiratory Care Services or Community Health Office. Nicotine replacement is available, as described above. Call Respiratory Care at 334-3212 or Community Health Office at 334-3208.

For patients who smoke over 2 packs per day there is the following service: Smoking cessation with guidance from a pulmonologist. Amount of nicotine replacement needed is directly measured and replaced in a controlled setting. This option requires physician referral and is scheduled with Respiratory Care Services. Tobacco Cessation with Hypnosis: This is available through the Quit Time course or the One-on-one Coaching from North Country’s Community Health Office. Hypnosis is helpful as an additional tool when combined with support and nicotine replacement. For more information or to make an appointment, call 334-3208.

Quit Line: A 5-session telephone support system, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Nicotine replacement (patches, gum or lozenges) is available at no charge. Participant makes the first call; Quit Line makes subsequent calls at agreed-upon dates / times. The toll-free number is
1-800- QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669).

Medicaid and VHAP clients are eligible for nicotine replacement from their local pharmacy with a prescription from their health care provider.
