What is Occupational Therapy? Occupational therapy is the skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence. Occupational therapy services include: customized treatment programs aimed at improving abilities to carry out activities of daily living, comprehensive evaluation of home and job environments and recommendations on necessary adaptation, assessments and treatment for work performance skills, recommendations and training in the use of adaptive equipment to replace lost function, instructions to family members and attendants in safe and effective methods of caring for individuals.
Who needs Occupational Therapy? People with work related injuries in the hand and arm, people who have had a stroke or heart attack, people with arthritis or other serious illnesses, children with birth injuries, learning problems or developmental disabilities, people with burns, spinal cord injuries, or amputations, people with broken bones or other injuries from sports, falls, or accidents.
About the Occupational Therapy department at North Country Hospital:
Johanne Champigny, OTR (occupational therapist registered) OT department supervisor. Johanne is a French-Canadian working in the United States here at North Country Hospital since August of 1995. Johanne was the first Occupational Therapist to be hired here at NCH.
Jordan Tim Hunt, COTA (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant) Currently resides in Derby Line and has been employed by NCH for almost three years.
Todd Rexford, COTA ,currently resides in Lyndonville and has been employed by NCH for almost two years.
NCH provides Occupational Therapy include inpatient and outpatient services at the hospital, outpatient services at Barton Clinic, and nursing home coverage to Newport Health Care, Maple Lane Nursing Home, and Derby Green Nursing home. They also do work site evaluations and observations at a variety of different businesses, and approximately 28 different school sites. |
